Our courses

Our courses are run in two periods:

  • September - November (I semester)
  • February - April (II semester)

Courses are offered at the following levels: A2 (elementary), B1 (Intermediate) and B2 (Upper Intermediate). The levels offered at the different CLIRO Centres will depend on the number of students who register and on the results of the placement test.

Courses are organised as follows: lessons in class (30 hours) and self-study activities (20 hours), for a total of 50 hours. Lessons are normally held twice a week (2 or 2,5 hours for each lesson), between 9.00 am and 6.00 pm from Monday to Friday.
For absolute beginner students CLIRO offers an on-line self-learning course (level A1). After having registered, beginner students will be emailed further information by the course tutor Anabel Valdivieso.

ECTS credits for exchange students

Italian language courses are pass/fail courses and are worth 5 ECTS credits. 1 ECTS credit is equal to 25 hours of student work (including home assignments, contact hours, etc.)
To obtain ECTS credits, exchange students need to attend at least 70% of the 50 hours (21 hours in class and 14 of self-study) and successfully complete the course requirements (see the Programmes for details).
Students must include the course code in their online study plan. The "pass" grade will be recorded electronically through "Almaesami".

Final certificate

On request, students can obtain certificates of attendance (frequenza) or achievement (profitto) at the end of the course. Students are required to attend at least 70% of the 50 hours to obtain either certificate. Students who successfully complete both the attendance and course requirements will be awarded the achievement certificate, students who only complete the attendance requirement can obtain the attendance certificate.
